Arizona: Weird & Interesting State Facts
Transcript:
Welcome to Arizona! The Grand Canyon State is known for its scorching heat, breathtaking scenery, and some truly strange laws.
Let’s start with Arizona’s weird laws—because they get pretty wild. Did you know that it’s illegal to let a donkey sleep in a bathtub? Back in the 1920s, a flood washed a bathtub (with a sleeping donkey inside) miles away, leading to a costly rescue effort. Lawmakers decided to make sure that never happened again. Another odd one? In Tucson, it’s illegal for women to wear pants in public. Thankfully, this law isn’t enforced, but it’s still on the books! And if you’re a fan of hunting, don’t even think about hunting camels—because Arizona once had a government program that brought camels into the desert, and hunting them is now illegal.
Now, let’s talk about Arizona’s natural wonders—because they are truly next-level. Of course, everyone knows about the Grand Canyon, but have you heard of the Wave? It’s a surreal sandstone formation that looks like it belongs on another planet. Then there’s the Mystery Valley, an ancient Anasazi site filled with petroglyphs and rock formations that seem to defy gravity.
But what really makes Arizona special? It’s the only state in the U.S. that does not observe daylight saving time! While the rest of the country is adjusting their clocks, Arizona stays the same. The state is also home to the world’s largest solar telescope and the only place where you can stand in four states at once—the famous Four Corners!
From strange laws to mind-blowing landscapes, this state is full of surprises. What’s your favorite weird fact? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to subscribe for more crazy state facts!
