    Born in Caldwell, New Jersey, and raised in Fayetteville, New York. Grover Cleveland started his career in Buffalo as a lawyer. His deep rooted commitment to fighting corruption led him to the Democratic Party where he quickly made a name for himself as mayor of Buffalo, and later as governor of New York, gaining a reputation for honesty and efficiency.

During his first term as President Cleveland was steadfast in his commitment to fiscal responsibility and government reform, he famously vetoed numerous private pension bills for civil war veterans, which he saw as fraudulent or excessive, and fought vigorously against patronage and wasteful spending.

Upholding his belief in a government that prioritized the public’s interests. One of the more personal and unique aspects of his first presidency was his marriage to Francis Folsom in 1886, making him the first and only sitting president to marry in the White House, known as Grover, the good for his integrity.
