Transcript:

Welcome to the Buckeye State! Known for inventors, astronauts, and college football obsession, Ohio is also packed with strange laws, eerie legends, and unexpected claims to fame that make it one of the weirdest states in the Midwest.

Let’s start with some weird laws. In Ohio, it’s illegal to get a fish drunk—yes, intentionally intoxicating fish is against the law. In Marion, you can’t eat doughnuts while walking backward on a public street. And in Cleveland, it’s illegal to catch mice without a hunting license. Apparently, even rodents need regulation.

Now for the strange and unusual. Its home to one of America’s most famous haunted roads—Gravity Hill, where cars appear to roll uphill against gravity. Science has explanations, but visitors swear something spooky is at work. The state also boasts the Ohio State Reformatory, a massive former prison rumored to be one of the most haunted buildings in the country and famously used in the film The Shawshank Redemption.

What makes Ohio truly unique? It’s produced more U.S. presidents than any other state except Virginia—earning it the nickname “Mother of Presidents.” Ohio is also the birthplace of aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, whose work helped make human flight possible. And here’s a fun one: astronauts Neil Armstrong and John Glenn both called Ohio home, giving the state a serious space legacy.

From drunk-fish laws to haunted prisons and gravity-defying hills, this state proves the heartland has a weird pulse all its own. Like, comment, and subscribe for more weird and interesting facts from all 50 U.S. states!
